SC and Roger, looked like program trading kicked it off, but based on my watch list, the big gainers look like mostly favorites of the shorts. All the big 'net stocks, except AOL, were up strongly. Dell was also up, but other box makers were not. Ya'll say it was the dippies, but could it be that shorts simply panicked when faced with the possibility of yet another whipsaw? Breadth barely improved with the rally, ending at 22:9 in favor of decliners.

Actually, S&P futures ended at a decent premium to fair value, so we probably had programs buying right up to the close.

BWDIK? We'll all find out tomorrow.
