Ann, that url on Promise Keepers was definitely not objective. It seemed to be a collection of quite a few writers from Colorado, where Bill McCartney comes from, all of whom had bad experiences with Promise Keepers. I have read quite a bit about them now, and there is not a whole lot written about them which is not either extremely favorable, or quite critical. I would guess that this is because conservative Christians agree with their platform, and more liberal people, and feminist women, do not. I think it is important to remember that they do have a political agenda, and ties to other extremely conservative organizations. If this is something an individual agrees with, they would tend to like the Promise Keepers. I have problems with them because they spread hatred about homosexuals, and believe that men should clearly dominate their households, and their wives. Taking back authority means for the men to dominate their wives, not for both parents to assert authority in the home. I live in San Francisco. The religious right is definitely in the minority here, and I am not aware of any Promise Keepers who are even acquaintances or live in my neighborhood. I would suspect this organization is more popular in more conservative areas, as this is where their membership would naturally come from.
