Lino I really don't know much at all about cable modems, I don't have one, but I know there are traders who use them and love them, perhaps we will hear from them.

Yes, you need to buy a card to install into your computer to connect to the cable modem. The cable company will provide you with all the equipment you need, if you are lucky enough to have it available in your area. Supposed to be very fast and reliable, but I assume the reliability is tied to the quality of service the local cable co. provides.
