Bob,

Thanks for the update.

I guess "Intel only" strategy didn't work that well for Packard Bell, especially in the segments of the market where PB used to be big. There might have been other reasons as well.

We will see how well they will do with Cyrix chips.

Has anybody seen the new models? CompUSA had something on their web page. It indicated M2 266, but it said no external cache. Oh well.

Joe

Has anyone noticed MII-300 on pricewatch for $128?

pricewatch.com

Only 1 vendor, other vendors are mostly $180 and up. Also, M2-266 is at $98. I think I am going to upgrade my old P-166+ in my home PC. At this rate I think by the end of the summer, I will get twice the MHz (266), 4 times the L1 for $100. I guess this could be called M2-333 or 350. The K6-2 sounds appealing (and cheap) too.

news.com

K6-2 266 for $115 in July. This is a great time for consumers. Tough for the shareholders of INTC, AMD, NSM, IDTI.

What we really need now is some bomb-throwers in telecommunication market. Especially someone who could compete with the phone monopolies. Speaking of evil empires, the phone oligopoly is as evil and incompetent it can get. Bring on the IP telephony, DSL, cable modems.
