This is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT REASON FOR OWNING COMS. It is considered prime bait for the building of the data networking companies - they need the data network expertise (vs the voice network technology of the telco equip comps). PLUS, LU and NT are not the only 2 companies looking to get heavily involved in building data networks. There's CISCO (which is not really looking for a data network partner - just mentioning that their part of the game). There's SIEMENS (huge German company, which has good relationship with COMS). There's ALCATEL (another huge european telecomm comp.). There's Ericcson also. And some others, which I can't remember. I just named off a bunch of telco equip.. Now how many main networkers are there? Not quite enough to satisfy all the demand. Again, even if 3com screws up with the modems (which I don't think will happen, but I don't rule out anything), they're still important for lots of other reasons. joe
