Off Topic -- Durian
Out here in Seattle-Bellevue, frozen durians go for $1.79 to 2.79 per pound and fresh ones go for $7.99 per lb. Imagine, its 80% husks and seeds. Yes, it is acquired taste -- somewhat like some cheeses. Talking of strange tastes -- what about uni? Wonder why people pay so much for it?

AND ALL: Maybe its the haze (ooops smoke) or the gases released by all the durians smashed open on this thread. Its looks like Indonesia is heading in the right direction. Just pulled this off the AOL news at 15:30 local (03:30 EST).

Indonesia Plans for 1999 Elections

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) - Indonesia's new president and Parliament leaders said they would aim to hold a general election in 1999, once political reform laws can be passed, senior lawmakers said Thursday. The announcement follows a meeting between President B.J. Habibie and senior legislators at the Parliament in the capital. Parliament Speaker Harmoko said he and the president had agreed to expedite the enactment of laws to liberalize Indonesia's tightly controlled political system.

If this is for real, could be the start of returning to normal. They just need to keep the populace thinking ahead and not too anxious over today.
