The Invert selection is a bit easier. Select win386.swp and any other files or subdirectories that you do not want and then edit/invert selection.

If I want to backup the entire C drive with this approach are there any other files I should deselect? I would think that I would get a sharing violation if I tried to copy a file that was in use by Windows as the copy command.

Does the boot sector reside somewhere identifiable or would this be considered the root directory? More important, what files/directories do I need to backup that are critical to maintaining primary computer functions? I do not want to necessarily back up and restore my entire drive.
