No, I don't think India should sit back - but the consequences are so very, very severe that it is absolutely imperative to rise above our usual natures.

In the past, I would have thought India so much stronger than Pakistan, that, if attacked, she could simply contain Pakistan without hurting too many innocent bystanders. India comported herself very nicely in 1970 I thought.

What concerns me is that a conflict could escalate so damned fast now with the nukes, that hundreds of millions of innocents could suffer before any containment strategy is available.

Oh well, I'm out of my depth here - I just hope this settles down. I hope Worswick is wrong!!
