Technical reasons for block traded by Goldman Sachs on 5-21-98

On that date there was a very sharp crossing of the Period and Signal indicators, which is a strong sell signal. It was such a strong signal that I would have sold (except that I was on vacation, it now turned out to be a very expensive vacation). The next day, CS's stock price broke through (downward) the 50-day moving average, which is another strong bearish signal.

Considering the circumstances, block trades of that magnitude should be expected. I consider it a big missed opportunity of my part, because I wasn't around to also take advantage of it.

Many people on this thread pooh-pooh technical analysis, but because so many analysts use it, it is a self-fulfilling prophecy and is generally pretty accurate
