I am going out on a limb here by posting to this thread. An English major, I am not. (Is that a correct sentence?)

In regards to the usage of "a" or "an" you are correct that it should have been "a," in most cases. There could be room for an exception here if the broadcaster was British. The British in this case would use the word "an."

Another area where this gets tricky would be in the case of the word "union" and other words with a" long u" sound at the beginning.
