Nextel files for employee plan (22May):

What is this?

Note the antidilution footnote. Valued at $ 0.5B. Could this be connected to the rumor of additional stock offering or financing that had been circulating? This reads as though the stock had already been allocated before the filing.

Bernie, Regarding the wireless data product:

I am not sure if Nextel has or will have the first wireless data product. This could be subject to interpretation. For instance, it is now possible to hook up portable computers with wireless modems for CDPD, etc. Do you have any idea or more specific information on what Nextel plans to offer?

Also, do you know when the StarTac-type model will be introduced? We had been hearing sometime this summer.

Thanks,
Rob

Rob, I don't have any more specific info on what Akerson stated was "...first high speed active data wireless product in the market." Call customer relations for more info. You're correct in that portable computers can be hooked up with wireless modems, but I don't have a laptop and am not familiar with the procedure/capabilities.

The Motorola StarTAC is scheduled to be rolled out in the 3Q. It is currently the smallest mobile telephone available in the wireless marketplace. It should help boost sales and usage.
