Cheryl:

Most legal experts and forward thinking futurists think that SUN has a greater chance of winning the JAVA lawsuit. The WSJ couple of days ago outlined one possible strategy DOJ would adopt in an effort to broaden its case. JAVA was included as part of that strategy. If DOJ ends up including JAVA along with other elements (NT,CE, WEB-TV, REALAUDIO/VIDEO, 98, browsers), Microsoft has an uphill battle on the JAVA front going forward: DOJ on one side, and SUN on the other.

JAVA received another major endorsement--Xerox. IBM yesterday announced their huge order for JAVA-based NCs. Bluechip companies are deploying JAVA applications today. The JAVA paradigm has the potential to crank up the entire consumer marketspace beyond just PCs. This innovation is key to creating future markets and consumer-centric economies.

The best days for components, CORBA, and newer integration models are just around the corner. As we see dramatic improvements in network BANDWIDTH (which is already in full throttle), more managers and programmers will appreciate the benefits of the network centric computing model. Despite all the issues we see and hear about JAVA, the future looks bright. We must continue to innovate. Period.
