Another myth -- writers don't necessarily win more than buyers.

Many options do expire worthless, but that does not mean that you can consistently win by being a writer either -- covered or uncovered.

Covered writing is more conservative than just owning stock if done properly, but you can't expect to outpace just owning stocks in a bull market (using the total return concept -- profit from stock and options).

wow thats a lot of words to type. thanks for the response. i have done about ten option trades so i am a newbie. i had quite a nice run going as 7/8 were gainers. number nine was a tough one to swallow. i managed to lose an amount equal to the gains from all of the gainers. that was an eye opener. i have scaled back my options activity and am doing some paper trading before i venture back into those waters wholeheartedly. i will look for cases like you mentioned and paper trade.
