 Wide-Area Surveillance

Land management, pollution monitoring, deforestation detection, emergency response, more accurate weather forecasting, improved air safety, and law enforcement are several of the benefits of comprehensive wide-area surveillance systems. Using a range of sensors--from ground-based and airborne radars and optical systems to geophysical monitors to satellites--extensive data can be gathered about a region, centrally processed, fused together and distributed to numerous organizations. Raytheon Electronic Systems, Raytheon E-Systems and other partners are interweaving their expertise to develop the most advanced environmental surveillance networks in the world. One of the first such projects will help protect the Amazon River region.

This project was mentioned some long time ago. Yes, there are also many military applications possible, including perhaps use in drones.Best, Savant
