Motorola Inc. said it will develop a new hybrid computer modem which can be used with both regular phone lines and ADSL high-speed Internet connections. Motorola said the modem will work with regular phone lines and be upgradeable to future ADSL standards as they are finalized.

ADSL, or asymmetric digital subscriber line, provides high-speed access to a network via phone lines and additional equipment at the central office. The modems will be capable of delivering data rates from 128 kbps to 1.5 mbps
