Recompute First to Offer 100MHz Pentium PCs for $299

AUSTIN, Texas, May 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Recompute(R) International Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: RCIC), the leading provider of top-tier, commercial-grade remanufactured computer systems today announced a price drop on its most popular corporate and education system to as low as $299.

Customers today can purchase a remanufactured commercial grade PC with a 100Mhz Pentium processor for just $299. A typical $299 configuration would be as follows:

Compaq Deskpro Minitower with a Pentium 100Mhz processor

16MB RAM

1.0GB hard drive 1MB video RAM

10-baseT network card

The original price of this system was in excess of $2,000. Recompute also lowered prices on several of its other PC products at the same time.

Recompute's price includes a 30-day, money-back guarantee and one-year extendible warranty. The system bus in this Pentium processor runs at 66Mhz, the same speed as the system bus used in more advanced Pentium and Pentium II products. This is the first time that processors of this speed and systems with this bus have broken this price barrier.

"Recompute is pleased to be able to deliver the most aggressive prices for a commercial-grade system to be sold directly to corporations, educational institutions, VARs and end-users," said Brian G. Kushner, Chairman and CEO of Recompute. "We continue to offer a better value than a new computer."

Sophisticated service options, such as next business day on-site service are available. Upgrades to the system are also available, including RAM, a suite of multimedia options and a choice of Windows operating systems. Recompute will custom configure systems and handle software loads for its major customers. In addition to desktop systems, Recompute sells servers as well as notebooks.

Recompute has helped spread acceptance of remanufactured PCs into corporate and educational environments by focusing only on top-tier, commercial-grade systems, and thoroughly remanufacturing every system with a 32-point process that includes adding new components and extensive testing. Today, remanufactured systems are being used in customer service, finance, sales, manufacturing, reservations, point-of-sale and a multitude of other applications.

james,
Don't think you are wrong holding Compaq long term at current prices up to mid 30s.

I am trying to find old press release announcing Compaq investment in India. I did find the Compaq India page under construction. Hope the India political situation cools off for many reasons. One of the reasons is the great market it represents for Compaq and the investments made there.
