Wow! 90 Billion in revenues... that's unbelieveable! Paul's numbers however make sense and show it to be possible. Paul is tightly connected with Intel insiders so I consider him a credible source. 18M units at 5k... could happen. Volumes would look like this in 2001. Desktops 118M PortaPottys 28M Workstations 18M Servers 4M-8M That's over half the $170 Billion projected for all Desktop sales in 2001. If the sub-zero segment grows to the projected 25% of total desktop volume of 118M then we will have 30M sub-zeros sold in 2001. We can assume that it wont command 25% of that revenue pie. If desktop ASP's are projected to be $1600 in 2001 and typical sub-zero ASP will be $800(with monitor) then $800 x 30M = a revenue pie of $24B. Hmmm. A $24B market vs. a $90B market. 15% GM vs 35% GM. Which business would you go after? Again I ask the bears why it's such a big mistake for Dell to be avoiding sub-zeros?? If Dell owns 10% or more of the workstation market in 2001, that business alone could equal or surpass 1997 revenues of 12B. Anyone still negative on the long term prospects for growth and profitability here??? Short away!! MEATHEAD
