Although we are fairly close I don't think he was comfortable with that question. ;-) Never know where the ISA lurks etc..

I did ask though and the response was "soon WE hope".

Hopefully it will be without chaos. If there is a battle within UMNO or externally it won't bode well for this country. Emotions tend to run high here particularly when you mix politics and religion. Things get said and done that are not forgotten, not like the U.S. where today's political adversaries tend to 'get along' after the battle.

I'm not sure I would even venture to guess what the best coarse would be. I surely don't want to try and forcast what will happen. I really don't see a smooth transition of any type that involves an election. Sad to say but that is the way I feel at the moment.

My sense is that as the UMNO elections get closer (July?) there will be increasing pressure brought by the business establishment for either a major change in the Dr's approach or a reshuffling of kingpins at the top.

Having been deeply involved in small town politics in New Hampshire, (did I ever tell you about loosing an election for selectman by drawing straws? FUNNY story I'll recount over a glass of amber liquid)it amazes me how similar this situation is. Its all in who has the perceived leverage.

Anyway, today is packing day, tomorrow we move to Serdang. REALLY looking forward to the commute! ;-)
