"Teach us why NXTL's 25khz channels are worth more than 30khz channels. And don't forget the PCS comparison. While you're at it, can you explain why NXTL can use non-contiguous spectrum while apparently the other telcos can't. Please use plain English as my technical knowledge leaves me geek deficient."

You can get more 25khz channels out of 15 Mhz than you can get 30 khz out of 15 Mhz.

PCS uses 200 Khz channels [the GSM style]. Nextel gets 3 calls per 25 khz, D-AMPs/IS-138 gets 3 calls per 30 khz. PCS-1900 [GSM style] gets 8 calls per 200 khz.

1Mhz [1000 Khz] allows you...

1000/25*3 = 120 NexTel calls
1000/30*3 = 100 IS-136 calls
1000/200*8 = 40 PCS-1900 calls [extremely inefficient]

Anyone can use non-contiguous spectrum. It just makes frequency planning/coordination a cast iron bitch.

Hope it wasn't too techie for ya Arnie
