I am not a Time Warner employee. You can find information in many places that they have been field testing aspects of digital system in several locations. They have been secretive as to where the first roll-out of full digital network will be. Lately, it has become obvious that Austin, TX will be one of the first fully working and installed markets. TWX lays out the network plans on their website.

TWX has been testing system and servers since early 1997 for this rollout. They completed phase I with the selection of SFA for the explorer 2000 and aspects of their overall network infrastructure. Phase II, which will be completed very shortly will be the selection and deployment of video servers and content (software) selection. Speculation back in November was based on TWX engineer comments that they were going to roll-out by May. That date has been pushed out to September (July, SFA starts shipping quantity Explorer 2000 boxes). Time frame for server selection and commitiments is very near.

This in no updated FSN. FSN realized people didn't want many of the things they tried to offer or not enough people used services that were to expensive to deliver. IVOD, ordering takeout, E-mail, internet access, the portfolio channel (really cool) and internet style games were what people would pay for and use. SGI and NCUBE servers, SFA box, 3com or Cabletron network, etc, were just for the test. They proved that new technologies and components were needed to make digital a economicly viable and profitable business. We have arrived thanks to SFA and company. The great part is that everyone is focused on Cable right now. Watch out for CCUR at Infocomm. They need distribution in that market for intranet. New alliance would be major event. Intranet is bigger than Cable and hospitality. it would be the reason that a Sun, HP, or SGI would try to take out a CCUR. This market is bigger than even Corky thought. Lot more fun to come. Why trade when you can own? Just my opinion.
