Thanks, John, for your reference --and penni (where are you?) I need some help from you as well. Believe it or not, folks, but even though I write professionally, I don't have any style manuals, language guides, etc., on my bookshelves other than Fowler's The King's English, a dictionary of synonyms, an ancient grammar book from my high school days, some only slightly less outdated dictionaries, and a few other odds & ends. penni, as I recall, you once posted titles of some interesting-sounding books in "our" field. I meant to write the titles down, but didn't get around to it. Can you post the URL of your original message? And of course, if anyone else has some titles, I, for one, am all ears! Thanks. jbe
