The MediaGX is a great part and delivers an overall cost advantage for low end applications. The C6 has is the lowest cost socket 7 alternative and overs power savings and single supply voltage capability that make it well suited for the growing (greater than 20% per year) PC upgrade market and portables. No doubt that it is becoming a niche product because the market is moving on to a higher performance sweet spot. IDT is coming out with the WinChip II which is being sampled now and is expected in volume production by the end of this summer. WC II is expected to have similar performance to the AMD K6 3D and will include AMD's 3DNow instruction enhancements along with doubled performance of FP and MMX. The advantage will be that while it will deliver performance comparable to Cyrix's and AMD's new offerings, (it will beat Cyrix to market although in what quantity remains to be seen), it will do so with a 40% smaller die size. So if the market continues down the path toward higher production rates and commoditization, IDTI may be the only manufacturer to actually make money on the glorious parts they are producing.

Cyrix has set the trend towards integrated uP chips with the MediaGX. But they are continuing to lose large amounts of money for NSM because of difficult to produce product designs and production ramp problems.
