<<Windows 95 is a truly innovative program>>

Carl, please do tell. What parts of Windows 95 are (or were at time of release) new (to the world of computing) and soley developed by microsoft? And how many of its features were 'borrowed' from truely innovative companies?

What I see is a company that has bought, borrowed, or stolen existing technology, compiled it into their own product, then using their huge size, war chest of money and stranglehold on the market to dominate and stifle innovation.

Let me also say this, regardless if windows truly is innovative or not, the real issue is that microsoft is using its monopoly power in OS to unfairly dominate other markets.

You are right, some in the world are ignorant while others blissfully accept the daily grub they are fed from the monopolist that want people to believe they are creating new ideas.

What is NEC/PB doing? I hope they just remove the Icon not the whole internet explorer. Man can the marketing people in this company have a little brain?
Browser is part of the OS, just like editor or wordpad. They just don't get it.

<<For now, that is not an issue for NEC, because it believes most companies will be slow to adopt to the new operating system, Anderson said>> This company is really lost its head. They underestimate it. Win98 have a lot more cool features, I'll think people will want to upgrade sooner since the hardware requirement is the same with win95, you lost nothing but gain.
NEC will loose more market share, man this company is suck.

Mo Chips..
Perhaps yet another opinion maybe helpful to understand the confusion regarding the MSFT Vs DOJ.

I remain a staunch supporter of the idea; market share should be a product of preference by the end consumer.

I am fully aware of our love for the underdogs in this country, and have my personal preferences of smaller companies Vs the larger ones.
However, I abhor government intervention in determining which company should receive a helping hand from taxpayers to provide them yet another opportunity to gain market share.

I share your concern regarding unlawful use of power or influence by any company/government large or small.

The past sorties of the DOJ into the high tech companies should be revisited by the U.S. Taxpayer, IBM and Kodak to name a few.

MSFT is not a product of the DOJ's interest in IBM, as some would claim.

MSFT was/is a company finding a opportunities....there will be others to offer an OS in MSFT place in the future, and will eventually surpass MSFT in market share, you can be sure of this. But, the alternatives have to exhibit superior merits Vs MSFT, and hence the consumer shall vote with their dollars.

I have a strong opinion regarding the CEO's ego's involved in this matter, many of the participants discussing this topic share or dislike/like the personality of the CEOs, which affects their logic and opinion.

And, perhaps even geographical location has a little to sway ones personal outlook.

Supporting local companies is kind of like the support of the local baseball or football teams, certainly has an effect on the SJ Mercury news. One could hardly expect sales and increased advertising of/in the Local rag should they offer a more balanced opinon, ask Sen. Orrin Hatch.

Wishing to make the transition from MSFT OS to another is a worthy pursuit for all companies who can develop a successful alternative, and I have no reluctance to invest in such companies, and welcome the opportunity.

To make this transition happen within a time frame that is convenient and productive to a selective few chosen by the DOJ would do harm to all who would like the opportunity to topple MSFT...

At present, less capable products are offered from companies which want to change the landscape of the OS now... Eventually it will happen, but they have to offer a better product...looking for the taxpayer for help is the least effective long term solution.....Investing in R & D is a more productive and eventually more profitable alternative.
