One would hope your DVD system has enough CPU overhead left, for interactive titles such as this... Dave.

ATLANTA--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--May 29, 1998--Digital Leisure announced at the E3 show today that it has acquired the DVD rights to "A Fork in the Tale", an ambitious project that redefines the interactive FMV game genre. Originally shot with a state of the art Sony BVW-400 camera, the five hours of video are ideally suited for the high quality MPEG2 video and AC3 audio of DVD . Both a Windows 98 DirectShow DVD -ROM version and a set-top DVD -Video version are planned.

Stumbling into the shoes of a wise-cracking hero, you're caught in the cross-fire of a pack of gun-toting henchmen and a beautiful woman. Wounded and confused, you're magically transported to a parallel universe on the island of Eseveron. In this first-person perspective, live-action adventure, you'll need all your wits about you to convince the locals on Eseveron to help you find magical items and solve the puzzles that will get you back to where you came from, and at the same time stop the forces bent on destroying the island. The voice of funnyman Rob Schneider, Saturday Night Live alumnae and star in NBC's Men Behaving Badly, brings his clever, quick-witted humor as the voice of the hero and provides hilarious dialogue between the player and the island's inhabitants.

Designed to stand apart from the crowd, A Fork in the Tale breaks all the boundaries of the FMV game genre which traditionally is thought to have limited interactivity. The puzzles in the game are not "memorize the solution" sort of challenges -- they require grasping the underlying pattern of clues and behavior that lead to winning. Memorizing "moves" will not work as random elements make for different game play and different scenes with each new game. This, along with the constant humor, make A Fork in the Tale one of the few truly replayable FMV games.

Conversation with island's inhabitants is a key part of the game. You'll have to figure out the attitude and reaction to your comments and then lead the conversation and, where possible, try to solicit help from the characters. But every character reacts differently -- in some cases sarcasm and mocking will work, other times you'll need to be more caring or reasoning. And in some cases aggression might be the only option.

Over 3 1/2 years in production and with a $2M budget, no expense has been spared by the developer, Advance Reality, to make A Fork in the Tale the most in-depth game of its type. Over 300 actors were auditioned to select the fifty actors in the game. A thirty person crew worked day and night for twenty-eight days filming over fifty-five hours of source video which was later edited down to the five hours of video in the game. In addition to Schneider, a team of seven comedy writers were assembled to rewrite, alter and punch-up the over 4,000 lines of dialog. Along with the scripted dialog, Schneider had a chance to ad-lib lines during his 18 days in the studio. The result is an immersive blend of video and interactivity that features three difficulty levels, freedom of movement, a choice of actions and a multitude of consequences with five different endings.

"We're glad to be teaming up with Advance Reality to bring this incredible game to market" says Elizabeth Foster, President of Digital Leisure. "With their production and game design skills along with our DVD development and publishing expertise, we're confident that A Fork in the Tale will be an exceptional release on DVD ."

Digital Leisure is a leading publisher of interactive DVD -ROM and DVD -Video titles including the Dragon's Lair series. The company acquires and remasters existing video-intensive titles that would benefit from the superior video and audio quality of DVD .
