Gary,

Quake has been optimized (i.e. carefully modified) for FPU of Intel processors. Winstone98 has been carefully designed to insure that PII would achieve good benchmarks. As a matter of fact, Winstone98 has been optimized for PII so successfully that even the cacheless Celeron achieves wonderful benchmarks too.

In reality, you could only find a few applications/games that optimize for Intel processors. It also means that PII is an inferior processor if put it to deal with real world jobs.

Gary,
RE: "From the tune of Tom's web site, he seems to 'hate' Intel
or at least dislike Intel."

Tom joined the dark side after being pressured by Vader about Tom's first Klamath review. <G>

Gary,
AMG K6-2-3d 300 $199
Looks like the $179 price on Pricewatch was removed.
I question whether the $247 P II-300 is a real 300.
