<< JPR, sounds ironical after tit for tat nuclear blasting, but the only mature thing to do.>>

That is the understatement of the day. I agree with you, esp when this proposal is coming at the heels of nuclear tests, blast for blast, eye for an eye and tit for tat.
My feeling is there are sane minds in the midst of this nuclear triumvirate. They have known and seen what the nuclear genie, when unleashed, could do.
My feeling is that US stands in the sidelines because of the fact, by law, the president had to enforce sanctions and it is not going to sit well with the South Asians. Once the triumvirate work out a solution to ensure peace in South Asia, US and its allies can abrogate the sanctions and enlarge on the prevailing solutions.

Gunther:

The May 11-13 Indian nuclear tests are a brilliant diplomatic move for India because they have unravelled for the Western PUBLIC (govts knew) the "clandestine" Chinese machinations of arming Pakistan and Iran with nuclear and missile technology to contain India and Israel-US domination of middle-east, while the US remained foolishly preoccupied with an delusionary Soviet threat. China wants to get Taiwan and continue to occupy Tibet. By engaging the American Administration in middle-east and now in South Asia, militarily, China will easily absorb Taiwan. China is irritated now because Indians have exposed them. Americans are beginning to assimilate the booby-trap that Chinese have been laying for Americans and world peace and the weakness of the American policy.

American taxpayers have wasted enormous resources on an incompetent organization like CIA who has been pandering to the US public fear by depicting a highly exaggerated Soviet threat. The beneficiary of this foolish/incompetency has been China which is the real threat to World peace than any other country on earth now.

I think the present US Administration is still intoxicated with the Chinese Military funding of US Presidential election. I see all this will unravel soon enough to dominate the fallacy of American doctrine of propping China.

India should not try to ally with the US. Neither should she seek a UN Security Council seat. India should merely concentrate on economic expansion and build up her defense to sustain this expansion, while exposing the fallacy of American doctrine to the American public. This will force the US to ally with the world's largest stable democracy on rational terms that the latter has always expected from the rest of the world.
