Sub $700. PC's

db.inman.com

Going to be difficult to maintain average profit of $700 to $800 per machine if you sell them for $700. IMHO.

I don't know if you guys have noticed but some of the stores (like Computer City and others) have captive brands like WINGEN that are even cheaper by several hundred $ that the HWP and CPQ models.

DELL does not sell their systems with a 15" monitor like CPQ does.
So you have to configure the systems with the same options in order to get a comparable price. To simplify, I dropped the monitor in my comparison.

Also, DELL no longer offers the 6.4GB HD on its Dimension model.
There are software application differences between the CPQ and DELL. CPQ sells only consumer PCs over its web site. The software is not as expensive as that offered by DELL. So the options need to be carefully chosen in order to have a meaningful comparison.

Again, DELL only offers DVD on Dimensions with upgraded sound options. The means the speakers and sound cards are high end not the cheap speakers posited in the original comparison. Whereas, CPQ uses speakers built onto their monitors in their low and mid range systems. These speakers are not comparable to the AWE-64 and ACS-495 USB speakers.

It looks like these comparisons have gone awry because we have been comparing a Ford to a Lincoln.

As to the printer, I saw a $129 CPQ printer at a local discount store.
It was not on sale. CPQ however, is giving a $100 kickback to the customer on purchases of a 1195 system w/o monitor if it is purchased before June 10. So CPQ is still clearing out its old models.
But the big discounts are nowhere evident in my area.

There are lots of no name PC boxes in the discount store usually for
$ 100 less. This particular discount store does not seem to be pushing the sub $ 1000 PC's at this time.
