Intel executives began notifying OEMs of the delay this week, sources said. The intention is to "backfill" the gap with an advanced 32-bit processor such as Willamette or Tanner. The Tanner processor is 32-bit but fits into a 64-bit Merced slot, the so-called Slot M.

Assuming Intel did notify OEM's of the news earlier this week, I would imagine this is the reason for the steep drop this week. Without any positive news and with RMBS chip set introduction being delayed longer and longer, we might drift lower. I hope not though.

Katmai's roadmap is more tightly coupled with RMBS's technology deployment (as mainstream PC memory) and price dynamics, IMHO.
