****OT**** Warren Buffett and Bill Gates Hold Q&A Session With Business Students in Rare Joint Appearance PR Newswire - May 29, 1998 18:46 MSFT %CPR %MLM V%PRN P%PRN KCTS Tapes Discussion for National Public Television Special SEATTLE, May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- This afternoon, students at the University of Washington received a free lesson in business from two of the most successful businessmen in the world. Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett and Microsoft Chairman and CEO Bill Gates fielded questions and shared their insights with more than 350 students from the University of Washington's School of Business in a 90-minute question-and-answer session taped by Seattle public television station KCTS. Questions were not pre-screened and no topic was off limits, making for a particularly lively and frank exchange. KCTS will produce the session as a one-hour special that will available to public television stations nationwide in late summer 1998. "The program is the first in a series of thought-provoking conversations with American icons that KCTS will present over the next few years," said Burnill F. Clark, President and CEO of KCTS Television. "This is a stunning debut. Warren Buffett and Bill Gates have reached the pinnacle of American business success, yet they each took very different paths to get there. The challenging questions the students raised and the very provocative answers that were given say a lot about these two business giants, as well as the attitudes of our next generation of business leaders." The broadcast of the Buffett-Gates session will be presented with enhancements that incorporate additional information about Buffett and Gates and the topics they discussed. Viewers with WebTV(TM) boxes and computer users who have Windows 98 software will be able to access the information expanding upon the program's content at the touch of a button. The program enhancements will be developed by Intris(TM), an affiliate company of KCTS created to serve public television stations in their transition to digital technology. In addition to its enhanced-television activities, Intris is involved in pioneering efforts in digital broadcasting, high-definition television production, online services, product marketing and training. Information relating to the Buffett-Gates discussion also will be posted on the Intris Web site, at www.intris.com, approximately two weeks before the program is offered for broadcast. According to Fortune magazine, Bill Gates is the wealthiest businessperson in America, with an estimated worth of approximately $50 billion. Warren Buffett is ranked number two on the Fortune list of wealthiest Americans, with an estimated worth of nearly $8.5 billion. KCTS is the largest public television station in the Pacific Northwest and the fourth most-watched public television station in the U.S. A leading producer of national programming, KCTS' credits include the Emmy Award-winning series, Bill Nye the Science Guy. The station also is a leader in broadcast technology, and was the first television station in North America to produce in high-definition television (HDTV). KCTS has produced 14 full-length HDTV programs to date. The KCTS production of the Buffett-Gates discussion is made possible by funding from The Floyd and Delores Jones Foundation, Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange. It was taped on the University of Washington campus before an audience of graduate and undergraduate business students, and was hosted by William Bradford, dean of the School of Business.
