penni and CatLady, are you guys saying don't use it? "Disgusting blobs that fall apart"? Clogs my drain? Geeze...these comments sound ominous. Maybe we tied into some cat litter that will "backfire"?

To clump or not to clump. Personally, I hate it when those long-hair calicos get it all clumped up in their fur. Then for spite, they sit on my newspaper whilst I'm reading it. <uggh>

"HA. I tried that clumpingstuff---nasty. Glopped up in these disgusting blobs that fall apart when you try to scoop them and then you chase the little globs around the box trying to catch them and pretty soon, it's everywhere. "

If you're going to go the clumping route, you need to get the good stuff. Scoop Away or EverClean are the best, IMNSHO.
Yes, the cheap clumping stuff falls apart, but the good stuff works.

We did this, we have a five-year-old cat who was raised in urban surroundings and have only lately trained her to overcome her instilled inclination to spend the majority of her time outdoors and to come inside to defecate where the kitty litter is. We did this in stages, first by putting the KL outside (we have lots of outside), and then by not changing it. There's been mixed results so far, it's been several days since there were little lumps behind the couch, but at the same time the nice soft dirt in the cilantro bed at the entrance to the garden, along with the almost-ready cilantro, has taken a real beating.

You can take the kitty out of the litter, but you can't take the litter out of the kitty.
