John - This delay is no surprise to me, I posted

2 months ago, but I also believe Barrett about 'no technical problems' if he's talking about silicon. The problems I know about are the compiler technology needed to optimize the instruction stream (merced performance depends on a lot of prediction information loaded into the instruction stream by the compiler) and getting the merced simulators to the point where real OS development can occur. Intel has been working with many of the major players over the last few months to get resource applied to those problems. Most people familiar with Intel and the many pieces needed to spin up merced have known for months that a 99 launch would take a miracle. But then the analysts are always the last to know, maybe this really is news to them.
