Excellent post, Shalom. I consider abortion to be the most important moral issue of our time. Another great moral issue that our nation faced was slavery. Both issues have a lot in common. Slavery was justified by declaring that those held in slavery were not "persons" for purposes of our Constitution (see the Dred Scott case). Similarly, unborn children in our time have had their "personhood" defined away thus depriving them of their "unalienable" right to life as guaranteed by God (not the constitution) and enshrined in our Nation's true founding document, the Declaration of Independence (remember?: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."). The irony is that when slavery was legal, abortion was illegal. Now slavery is illegal (as it most absolutely certainly should be) and abortion is legal. We as a nation finally won the righteous battle against slavery and now we are in a great and epoch struggle against the proponents of darkness to preserve our weakest citizens' most fundamental right - the right to life. God help us!!
