NW -
Samsung is also an Alpha supplier and has aggressive plans. AMD is both licensed to produce Alpha and also plans to integrate some K6 and K7 technologies into a future Alpha part which would run IA32 (32 bit Intel) apps faster than either Alpha or Merced. IBM is looking at Alpha production as well.
I doubt that any of these companies would have been aggressive about Alpha before the CPQ acquisition.
