gc, re: <<I believe the "news" has been built into the stock price for now.>>

You are 100% correct. If Intel was at $100/share right now, I'd be concerned. But, it's not.

If Intel had a P/E like Amazon, I'd be concerned. But, I'm not.

However, that won't stop the fearmongers (i.e. the idiots on CNBC) scaring the bejesus out of everyone and giving the big boys a chance to buy most tech stocks cheaper.

The market is a crazy thing. With the exception of a very, very few stocks, buy and hold just doesn't work that well (except within finite time spans like the current bull market with selected stocks only).

Then again, getting whipsawed via trading doesn't always work either. <ggg>

For those unfortunate souls that bought Dell at $98, just take the pain. You'll see that price again, but it just might take a little while.

Good luck.

I would look at a 3 year chart and then decide if there's room on the downside (EOM)

GC, I think we should keep in mind that Merced is a 64 bit processor. This processor is initially going to be sold in servers, not pc's. I think it will be sometime before you see the Merced in home, or office pc's. The competition to the Merced is Dec's Alpha processor. I think we all know that Intel will produce the Alpha for DEC as part of the agreement reached between the two companies. However, with CPQ buying DEC, things may change with respect to the future direction of the Alpha chip. If the Alpha is dropped by CPQ/DEC, this leaves Intel as the only player in town. Therefore, I really don't see any major negative impact to Intel by the delay of 6 to 12 months of the Merced chip.

If Intel drops below $70/share, I think we are then seeing some good buying opportunities.

I sure don't see any negative impact to Dell with respect to the delay of the Merced. Do you?
