Am I right to think that there is an important distinction between what Bernard Schwartz did, regarding donations to the Prez, and what Loral did? The news commentators insist on talking about "Loral's donations".

I mean, he doesn't make for much of a greedy, devious traitor if he pays hundreds of thousands of his own personal dollars to to try and buy political favors for a company that is owned by thousands of other people - mostly strangers.

<<And, I feel I have every right to criticize the media based on my own personal experiences. Perhaps Tim A is correct when saying their motives are pure. I would like to think that they are. But that doesn't change my opinion that I believe that they are often wrong.>>

EGAD!!! I've been taken out of context!!! I didn't say that their motives were pure; I said I give them the benefit of the doubt and conclude that their motives are pure. ; )

Mr. A. - I'm not defending the media. A personal approach of mine to this short life we live is to try and give people the benefit of the doubt regarding their motives. If I didn't, I'd go crazy; just like the people we run into everyday who take everything that somehow touches their single life as a personal matter. ("My burger's cold! I know that SOB at the grill did this just to make my already miserable day a little sh!tt!er! Wait 'til I see that guy alone!").

Actually, I'm sure there are plenty of instances when the press intentionally twists the facts to make the story sell. Or unintentionally writes a story that is perceived differently from the facts because of time pressures, lack of knowledge of the subject matter, or inattention. I think I know where you're coming from. One would need to search long and hard to find the person who truly believed that the motives of the media are always pure. Unfortunately, the standards appear to be deteriorating.

My regards to you. ...Tim
