Del,

I request from you an IMMEDIATE retraction. I never ridiculed you about the possibility of life on Mars! As a matter of fact I supported your view that life may be there. I also pointed out that of the 3 tests for life the old Viking probe took, 2 came back positive. Before the mission, a NASA official stated that if just two were positive, as far as he was concerned, there was life on Mars. Later, when the results for the 3rd test proved ambiguous, NASA hedged and refused to declare life is on Mars. They were playing it conservative. It is good to note that Viking was sent to the desert plains of Mars where the possibility of discovering life was least likely.
