I doubt that Intel's delay of Merced has anything to do with DUV. At this point the chip is probably still not a chip at all, rather its still in software simulation. There are lots of reasons why they would delay this... from problems with the actual performance of the chip, to potential issues with the size, energy consumption, etc., of the chip. The other possibility is that the software and firmware that will be needed to actually develop computers that use the chip is not going to be on a timeline that requires the actual production of chips when Intel first thought. This, of course, is largely out of Intel's control.
