If you want straightforward opinions, anonymity could be very important if you are known in an industry or company. I believe there are many such individuals on these pages that fall into this category. Informative opinions are what really matters.

Carl, yes this is a tough one. Again, I take no issue with anonymity if the person is not engaged in character assassination.

I suppose Jerry Sanders could take on a name like "Paul Engle" and post all sorts of great stuff about Intel for several years and then, just before shorting, extol the virtues of Intel and why everyone should buy the stock with their full life savings. After shorting the stock and gaining everyone's confidence after years of great posts, he posts the killer post saying "I've shorted and why" then laughs his way to the bank. Of course Intel has much too large a capitalization to get away with this and I believe Paul shows up at Intel Stockholders meetings so we know he isn't Jerry, but the tactic was very common on AOL and Usenet early on with lightly traded companies.
