Seems obvious that JIT can't work at all levels of the supply chain, because the producer of the finished good has to be able to either buy or not buy on demand. Unless all players forecast together and are exactly right with forecasts you get back to the same problems for the folks lowest down the chain -- e.g. DRAM glut. The large fixed costs have to be spread over the units produced for the business to be profitable and these decisions (buiding a fab/not building a fab) can never be JIT (they can be made on better forecasts, but not JIT). Amazing how many people really believe that these principles (JIT) can be applied at all the levels in succession. Good business still requires good planning. Software can't do it all. But MANU sure was flying for a while wasn't it? Predictions on the stock price of GTW & DELL at the end of the year? Here's mine: 21 and 53.
