>When was the last time you could buy MSFT at less than 20% appreciation over the last year?

Christmas 1992 to June 1993

July 1993 to July 1994

The week of July 12th 1996.

During the 1980's, MSFT got off to a quiet start. I don't have the numbers, but I did own the stock and I don't think it appreciated much above 20%.

You're looking ahead 18 months. MSFT probably a safe bet that far out. Stock seems to run like the dickens for a while and rest for a while. The runs vary, but the rests take about a year. In 18 months, the resting should be over and signs of life returned. Note that I didn't mention where the stock will visit on its journey -- I don't know the short-term downside. (or care) Hope this helps, PW.
