I'll try answering your question. If I'm worng about something, I'm sure someone will correct me. The delay shouldn't affect IDT at all. The merced chip was to be first targeted at high end type computers. Servers, mainframes ( I believe) but not the desktop. At an estimated $2500 per chip, you can bet you won't see them on many desktops. I'm sure there will some compuer buffs that will build their own systems.
Looks like it will be more painfull for HP than intel since HP is betting heavy on this chip.

No impact on WinChip business for the foreseeable future. Merced could migrate down to the PC marketplace in several years but that is uncertain and nothing that would effect IDTI for quite a while - far too speculative to consider now. Merced is an important product for Intel because it should move them more into the mainframe and high-end server and workstation markets.
