Tip, I find that Indexing makes all kinds of sense when you don't have the time or the info or the skills to differentiate. That is why I use the index with airlines. They all look alike to me and I don't think they are worth a lot of study. Airline analysts would disagree. And that certainly applies overseas.

My biggest complaint is that fund managers are indexing, overtly or covertly. There whole reason for existing is to differentiate and we pay them to have the talent and skills on board to do so. Sometimes, the index or the CEF is simply the cheapest thing to buy, either because of discounts or lack of access to markets. But, when you do have a lot of skill in an area, I think it is cowardly to index. Of course, I would rather lose than be average. -g-
