If I remember correctly, Martin called the '87 plunge on the Wall Street Week program the Friday before it happened.

I remember October 19th well. I was an investment advisor back then, running other folks bucks instead of my own, and I got everyone out about 2 weeks before it happened. This was not brilliance. It was dumb luck. I was going on a long vacation and I told my clients I wasn't going to be able to watch their eggs, so dump the basket. Most did.

There was no chance to get out on the Monday. None. There was no bounce. Nothing but the great void below. The bounce came on Tuesday. I missed the whole thing, sucking rum punch on a beach in the Caribbean with a gorgeous blonde (my wife, then and now) :o)
