I think Web Post and Web Hosting describe two important functions of a larger packet of services. I think the term video service bureau might describe the whole ball of wax much like the old computer service bureau. I think the vision is that as internet and intranet content continues to grow, the video portion of that will grow the fastest. I think the Ampex annual indicates that video is 15% of digital content stored now and will grow to 40% by 2001. Now a corporation can either do all its video processing, storage and broadcasting inhouse or it can outsource it to a "video service bureau" who will digitize their video, format it for RealPlayer or NetShow or full motion video, store it and be the WebHost or the Post that the corporate employees go to access the video, the website. If General Megabucks wants to explain why the Chairman got 300 million in a stock bonus, a persuasive video might be better than reading about it in the WSJ.

Anyway, I think Ampex has participated in every video on demand trial that was conducted and they must see some opportunity to marry their superior video, image, and audio technologies with a service based business to corporations. I know there will be opportunities to link advertisers, broadcasters and the Fortune 100 who do all the advertising so that commercials ordered by the clients can move from the ad agencies to their clients and back etc. When I have more time I'll update on the MCI NBC project and the subsequent trials with MCIs ad agency. What motivates this. I read that FedEX makes 200 million in revenue a year just delivering video cassettes to the likes of CNN, NBC etc.
