Holly, Word Perfect also fell on their face by not forseeing the acceptance, popularity and demand for GUI based applications. Word Perfect thought DOS text applications were the only kind of word processor that the public needed or wanted. By the time they came out with Word Perfect for Windows it was too late. Word for Windows was light years ahead of them.

Lotus 1 2 3 did the same thing figuring why in hell would anybody want a GUI for numbers. Wrong. Excel proceeded to disembowel them while they looked on. By the time their lungs hit the floor it was too late, they were dead meat.

Here you have two great companies that had the best selling software on the market and refused to look ahead and were quite content to sit on their laurels until it was too late. Bill simply cut their throat while they were counting their money.
