Thanks for the link and the attempt to answer my question.

The link seems to be a little outdated however. I don't even see SIGM represented as a supplier to any company on the list, including Phillips and Sony. I do however see now why CUBE has a market cap of over 700 million vs. SIGM's under 50 million.

SIGM recently (this quarter) developed this chip to use, so they didn't have a competitive advantage to secure many customers before this time. If the switching costs are low for these DVD-Upgarde kit suppliers, SIGM may be able to steal away a few customers. Especially when DVD-Rom read/writable comes on the market.
