The facts have been well known for a while. CPQ's problem was not and is not in the sub-k consumer pc. It is in the corporate pc business.

Jim -
put that tube of glue away, CPQ has never purchased 3rd party boxes and had them drop shipped (although someone claimed hpeace put that story out a while back). CPQ's presario line is made right here in Houston (and at several other places around the world) and is shipped either directly to the retailer or at most through 1 middleman (of course there's nothing to stop those folks from selling to other middlemen, except I can't see how they would make any money).

Also several well thought out posts have pointed out that Dell has an inherent handicap in selling to the consumer market, just as CPQ has a handicap in selling mixed commercial configurations. Alan H has done some nice work on this topic. That's why Dell has been smart to stay out of the consumer business.
