It wouldn't surprise me if there was also, if not exclusively, a strategic reason for Intel's delayed Merced volume production. Microsoft did this numerous times for maximizing overall product values within a specified time frame.

Makes no sense to me. While I lack the inside knowledge that some on this board may have, I kinda doubt that Intel's profit margin on the Alpha chip will come close to what they make on their own chips. Comments, anyone?
