<< Already the dominant player in digital certificate

<< Microsoft or SAP, in digital certificate space

I, also, believe in the L-T future of the technology. When more people get on-line and conduct business, I believe there will be a need of some form of identification.

What worries me, and it has been stated on this thread previously, is that other companies might leap frog over VRSN.

Examples:

-- MSFT - or even Netscape (if their still in business <g>)- embedding a identification device in its browser. It seems natural, whether they use VRSN technology is a big question.

-- Perhaps large multi-national banks verify your identity akin to getting a certified check. They could advise who you are and if you have enough dinero to buy that widget online.

-- Even the Government could get interested saying the issue is too important to be left to the private sector (?), and either make Social Security or the Post Office verify identification.

Mostly, the above are thoughts off the top of my head, but are not out of the realm of probability. On a positive note <g>, VRSN seems to have a growing business in its server digital ID product that many firms are buying into. I seen an ad in the WSJ a few weeks ago from a firm conducting business on the web. I forgot the particulars, but I noticed VRSN co-branding the product. Nice sign. Overall, I think VRSN has a good future ahead of itself.

Hopefully, this wasn't too long. Just my thoughts.

Regards.
