Oh I know: why don't we just have competition? Because microsoft won't let us!

Oh, I see. So I guess that Solaris, Linux, OS/2, etc., don't exist? Also, let me clue you in on something: It is consumers who have voted with their feet: They want a dominant OS. Why do you keep ignoring this issue? Obviously a dominant OS provides more efficiency for software developers. Have you ever been to Quebec, Canada? Signs in both French and English. Ever been to Finland? Signs in both Swedish and Finnish. There is a cost for all this double-production. Why do you suppose that the ITU voted on a 56K standard?

Do you really want software developers to have to develop all their applications for two, three, or five different OSes, each having approx the same market share? Where is the logic in this. I as a consumer am very glad that Microsoft (or somebody, it doesn't much matter who it is) has developed and marketed a very nice OS which not only I like, but one which a lot of people seem to like -- hence, it became dominant.

I ask again, M31: Where was Sun in 1988 to 1990, when MS was working on Windows 3.0? Don't tell me that Sun or anyone else has been locked out of the market. The fact is, they weren't interested. NO, they were NOT INTERESTED. Not until Microsoft demonstrated how profitable it could be to develop a good GUI for the Intel platform. Oh, other companies did try. I tried a couple of them, and they were lame. I paid more than $89, too. But NOW we have a bunch of companies wanting to eat Microsoft's lunch, a lunch which Microsoft has prepared.. No wonder. That lunch is pretty tasty. :-) so hee-hee and ha-ha.

Mr. M31,

<<<<<Bill Gates doesn't tell you what's best for you. If you like his product, you buy it. If you don't like it, there are alternatives.>>

Not viable ones, and that's one of the main issues!>>>>

I guess the real problem is not Microsoft, but the developers. You should contact the DOJ and tell them to order developers to write for the other OS.

Thank you,

JK
